about

What a strange little club Jerry, Greg and I have. I can still remember like it was last week, the three of us walking out to Lester Mund's family home near Fort Worden in Port Townsend, plugging in, and letting the original music fly. It was a sensation beyond words. That was in 1968... and here we are all these years later still doing the same thing. Except now we have credit cards, wrinkles and greying hair. Not many dreams last a lifetime. I have been so fortunate to have this one.... And these friends....

Take a trip back to mid-1969 with Glass as we write, rehearse and record our very FIRST original music. Those of you who know us or know our history know we used to rehearse in a small one-room cottage behind the home of a man named Lester Mund (RIP) in Pt. Townsend, Washington. We "inherited" the practice place from a local band called "The Mob" after they graduated. It was quite an honor for us to get to rehearse in their old spot and an even greater fortune that the magnanimous Lester Mund let us do it-we were QUITE loud! He was the kindest guy and one of those early Glass supporters, without whom Glass could not have survived until today. We used to walk out to Lester's every day after school and have band practice. The space was small and our Fender Amp Stacks, PA and Jerry's double bass drum Rogers set nearly filled the entire room. We had blankets up everywhere and I think there were even some egg cartons put up on the wall. My dad bought Greg and I a little reel-to-reel Ampex 761 tape recorder for Christmas of 1968. It was really cool, it had these little cube speakers that detached and were stored inside the case. Great recording quality for the time! And it had a feature called sound-on-sound that allowed for simple overdubs.

So we recorded everything we did. And we were *on fire* with creative energy and verve (as this recording surely demonstrates). We were only 15, 16 and 17 years old-just kids-but we had seen The Soft Machine nine months earlier in Seattle. We had our direction and a musical path and nothing else in the world mattered to us.

Tracks recorded June 17 and July 20, 1969 at the Glass practice facility in Lester Mund's outbuilding in Port Townsend. For best results, play this music DEAFENINGLY LOUD in a VERY SMALL room.
