Way back in 2002 my brother Greg and I had the idea for a concept album called “Europa”. Actually, I think it was more Greg’s idea than mine – he being the more “concept piece” oriented of the two of us. The loose concept was going to be based on the evolution of War as a solution to problems. This seemed to us to be something that had been with mankind from the very first caveman conking his neighbor over the head to take his latest animal prey from him. Or maybe his neighbor’s cave was larger and he just wanted new digs. Or his neighbor’s cavewoman was producing more children. Who knows? But it seems to be a plague still visited upon us and though the means to kill our neighbors has become more efficient we can’t seem to get past this. Maybe it’s in our collective DNA. Anyway, we both had a few song ideas (several of which went on to be included on future Glass albums) and we had rehearsal time to spare there in the basement of Jerry’s West Seattle home on California. So we stitched together a “working draft" and went on rehearsing our Sets for the first Progman Cometh Concert.

Fast forward to the present and our determination to release our vast archive of recordings to the world. This “working draft” certainly deserves to be part of those releases. So without further adieu, I give you the Glass album that never was – The Europa Suite.


In asking Greg about the details, he confirmed "It was another suite never released. Parts of it were taken out and reworked for the Illuminations album and The Gaia Suite".

"Yeah, as a set it kinda grows on you. It's not as heavily-produced or thickly-entangled(?) as other Glass studio recordings, it's more organic and "make-up free." It seems to come from a place of deep maturity. It is the Meryl Streep of the Glass catalog."
