about

This collection is a real gem. Glass used to record alot of our rehearsals. This album is a collection of such recordings, assembled by Jeff Sherman while we were all living in Olympia (1971-1974). We sent a cassette home to Mom in Port Townsend as an addendum to a letter, ostensibly to let Ma know we were doing okay out there in the Big Wide World. The tape turned up unexpectedly in 2000 when we were cleaning out her things after she died. She saved everything. She was always our biggest fan.

These versions were recorded live (without overdubs) on the band's Revox tape deck, sometime shortly after we had purchased the first Mellotron ever sold in Washington State (in January 1973). We were fortunate enough to have a live-in sound engineer and photographer, Erik Poulsen, who is responsible for the album-like quality of many of our recordings over the years.

The Plus One, "Elmer The Dancing Bear" is the exception. It was recorded September 1971 in Encino CA by Starshine Productions (Bob Crewe), while we were briefly signed with them. This was gonna be our big hit.

It wasn't.
