Back in 2002 & 2003 the "Progman Cometh" concerts brought a boatload of Canterbury scene musicians to Seattle.

One of the perks for Glass was getting to invite Phil Miller and Richard Sinclair into the studio with us while we were finishing our "Illuminations" album... and afterward just jam with them.

The session was very congenial, with these two old friends who have known each other practically their entire lives. It slipped out in their conversations, private little jokes, etc. As the session went on, Phil began developing his own ideas and implemented them without fanfare. The guitar hook he came up with in "GAIA" really makes the tune IMHO. And they were both just so gracious and “gentlemanly”.... Even just "noodling around" (a Hugh Hopperism) the talent of these two men is just SO impressive. We felt honored just to get to support them-however briefly-as a rhythm section.

Incidentally, "Gaia" is just one part of a much longer suite, originally written as a solo piece for Jeff. It has now been released in its entirety.

Hey, can we call this music "Glasstenbury"?

"This rather informal session produced one track, “Gaia”, which appeared as the final track on Glass’s 2005 release “Illuminations”. It appears here in its full unedited form, along with other highlights from the session, building on ideas put forward by the Sherman brothers as well as Richard and Phil, who hadn’t played together since the ill-fated Hatfield reunion in 1990, and this likely paved the way for the second reunion which took place 18 months later."
