about

Yes, we know Sirus is spelled incorrectly. It's called "poetic license," okay? The title reflects a dream I had long ago in which I was told that we would name the song thusly, and I always follow my Muse's instructions. Actually 2/3 of this magnificent opus was written by my brother Greg and it stands as one of the finest accomplishments Glass has. The middle section of this song which starts at 4:02 is my contribution. The story behind this song is rather interesting. Glass with Jerry Cook was still officially disbanded at the point this song was created. My brother Greg and I had just gotten back from a month and a half gig at the Whitehorse Inn in the Yukon Territory and Greg had been given some recording time at Seattle's pre-imminent studio Kaye-Smith by his friend and former TESC teacher Norman Durkee. Durkee had seen something special in Glass and fronted us 10 hours of recording time as I recall. Greg and I had been thinking about reforming Glass with Jerry to try another demo run at the record industry. I had made a friend named Jerry Linderson who was an A&R man for MCA Records. He said he'd take a demo tape of the band right to the Big Guys in L.A. so... Glass was always in our element in the recording studio. We learned early on how to use the studio to our advantage and my brother Greg became quite a master at overdubbing parts to our songs. The amazing thing about this recording is that we hadn't actually played with Jerry in over two years. We called him up and had ONE rehearsal in my Mom's garage out on 147th St in Seattle. I don't think Jerry even owned a drum set, we had to borrow one. And the material was some of the most complex Glass had ever attempted. But when we got into the studio something just clicked and the old magic was just there. In fact, I'd say it was better than it had been before because the three of us were re-inspired and re-energized by the realization that Glass was indeed our ultimate musical destiny. Enjoy now it's one of the finest Glass recordings ever and also one of the finest examples of 1970s Era Progressive Jazz-Symphonic Rock ever made.

Recorded August 13th, 1977 at Kaye-Smith Studios, Seattle.
