about

This gig bookended the short-lived reunion of the original Glass (with Jerry), which began in August 1977 when we recorded "For Ursula Major" at Kaye-Smith(¹) after one rehearsal, followed by overdubs on "NSTTS" (January 1978)(²), and ending with this concert. Greg and I had come home after finishing our 6-week stint (as "Straw Dogs") in Whitehorse, Yukon. Our sister Janis Hayward Sherman, who was at the time a student at Peninsula, kindly set up this gig for us. She had help from a longtime Glass fan and aficionado named John Nowak, also attending Peninsula. It therefore became known as "The Nowak Tape."

We performed "Broken Oars" and "Ursula Major" after this set but didn't have enough tape to record them.... :^(

You can hear at the end of "Every Fool's Kingdom" that we had our doubts, and somehow this became the last time the three of us would play together for 20 years. I remember this gig very well. We had to borrow a bunch of gear to pull it off, including a massive tricked-out Oberheim synthesizer to get those Mellotron sounds, and a drumset for Jerry which was wholly inadequate to his needs.
