Here is yet another rare treat. Our good friend Bill Cartmel has recorded Glass live a few times in our distant past. A while ago he presented me with a cassette recording he made of Glass when we played North Seattle Community College back in 1972. The recording was notable for a couple reasons. One was that it was, to my knowledge, the only "bootleg" recording of the entire "Broken Oars" suite. Yep, we used to play the half-hour long Broken Oars LIVE on college campuses in our youth! Quite a feat all things considered. The second thing that blew me away was a track on this recording that I had forgotten we did. I pride myself on having a knowledge of every piece Glass ever worked up for performance or recording. And I did recognize the bass licks that comprised the middle section of the song as mine. But the rest of this track was almost completely foreign to my ears. How exciting that was! Getting to hear Glass play a song that was "new" - even to me! So I dedicate this song to Bill and his pesky Sony cassette recorder. And now you get a chance to hear it too.

Since Carsten Pieper writes so enthusiastically about this band, I had to give it a try, and really, I'm very enchanted! Well, I always can rely on Carsten's opinion... So this is a demo?! That's kind of an understatement. It's much better than lots of official releases cranked out by other bands nowadays, and sold for big bucks. This phenomenon reminds me of the superb "demo" issued back in 2003 by Jordsjø's compatriots Wobbler, containing a similar kind of retro prog in the vein of early 70's kraut. Sven B. Schreiber (sbs)
