about

This is an earlier version of a song that became "Sheepskin Dreamland" in 1975 when we reworked it to play with Paul (see track #8). The two versions are vastly different in arrangement, content and feel. The first one, this one, was recorded live at "The Cave" in Tacoma, WA on the same night around October 1973 as "Bring Me The Butter." Jerry Cook was still on drums and the energy and verve with which he played it were incredible. I wanted to post this version, despite the less-than-stellar recording quality, because it really shows how Glass sounded live. Greg and I were just starting to develop the dual keyboard thing at this time, and in fact, I didn't even own a piano yet, so I had to put my Rickenbacker bass down and run over to Greg's side of the stage to play his Baldwin Electro Piano. He had just gotten the Mellotron at this point as is evidenced by my brother's great Mellotron flutes. Anyway, this starts with Greg and me playing dual keyboards. Enjoy~

"Another song that we played at the Cave was a song that has never surfaced in the archive tapes. It was the first “double keyboard” song that Glass did. Before we purchased the Rhodes piano, Jeff came over to my side of the stage and he played my electric Baldwin piano while I played the Mellotron. It was the first and last time that was ever played. But a reel-to-reel tape was recorded on Jeff’s Revox."
