about

This is the ORIGINAL version, recorded at The Evergreen State College's 8-track studio January 6, 1976 with Paul Black on drums and Bob Moore engineering. It includes (at 4:33) the infamous "Cymbal That Wouldn't Go Away."

The 1-inch TESC tape was rejiggered in 1977 at HHR Studios to add backwards effects, and then finalized in January 1978 at Kaye-Smith Studios, where Paul's drums-except for that damn cymbal-were replaced by Jerry, and more Mellotron bits were added. That's why this tape got the nickname "The Traveling Master." It was finally released in 2000 on the album of the same name.
